Seafarers' Trust

The ITF Seafarers' Trust was established by the ITF Executive Board in 1981 as a body with charitable status under UK law. The Trust financially supports organisations that directly provide welfare services to seafarers, acting as a catalyst for positive change in the maritime community, support long-term programmes that improve maritime workers’ health and welfare through direct and normative change. Its funding comes from the investment income of the ITF Seafarers' International Welfare Assistance and Protection Fund and from capital funds held by the Trust itself. Since its launch in 1981, the Trust has provided some US$200m to support seafarers' welfare around the world.

ITF - International Transport and Workers Federation

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) is a democratic, voluntary and affiliate-led federation of 670 trade unions, in 140 countries, representing 19.7 million working men and women in all transport sectors. The ITF represents the interests of transport workers' unions in bodies such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The organization also informs and advises unions about developments in the transport industry in other countries or regions of the world, and organise international solidarity actions when member unions in one country are in conflict with employers or government.

WMU - WORLD MARITIME UNIVERSITY

The World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden is a postgraduate maritime university founded in 1983 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations. The aim of WMU is to further enhance the objectives and goals of IMO and IMO Member States through education, research, and capacity building on maritime and ocean-related affairs to ensure safe, secure, and efficient shipping on clean oceans. 

 WMU offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes, as well as professional development courses, with the highest standards in maritime and oceans affairs. With over 4,300 alumni from 166 countries across the globe, WMU graduates have a significant impact on the global maritime industry..
